Important Travel & Special Registration Information

If you have Special Registered and are leaving the United States including travel to Canada, Mexico or adjacent islands. You may only leave the U.S. through designated ports of departure and you must register your departure with immigration officials at the port of departure in the last city from which you leave the U.S., this may be a lay over stop, the same day you leave the United States

  • When you are booking an airline ticket, make sure that if you have a lay over in another city that

  1. the airport is a designated port of departure and has an immigration office,
  2. the immigration office is open during your layover, and
  3. you have enough time to register between connecting flights (the immigration office may be in a different terminal than your flight)
  • It is advised that you arrive early to allow time for the registration process.
  • Please note the hours of operation for the ports of departure
  • Bring with you, evidence of your original registration, which is usually your I-94 card endorsed with evidence of your registration

If & when you arrive back in the United States, be prepared to be registered again at the port of entry

Registration could delay your ability to catch a connecting flight. Allow enough time between flights

You must report to your local Immigration office between the thirtieth (30th) & fortieth (40th) day of your re-entry to the U.S.

In Washington State these ports are:

  • Seattle Tacoma International Airport — take the subway train from the Main Terminal to the South Satellite. Go up one flight of escalator stairs to the mezzanine level. Turn left and follow the hallway to the Immigration office. Open 8 am — 4 pm.
  • Pacific Highway (Blaine) Port of Entry for Vancouver, Canada — take I5 North to Exit 275, continue north on State Route 543. Pass through the intersections of Boblet Street, H Street & D Street. Park in the paved area between SR 543 and southbound traffic lanes. Cross the street and report to the immigration counter to your immediate right as you enter building. Open 24 hours. (note that the designated port of departure is not the usual Peace Arch entrance to Vancouver, Canada)
  • Bell Harbor (Seattle) Pier 66 Cruise Ship Terminal Open 6am — 1pm, Monday — Friday.
  • Oroville Port of Entry Open 24 hours
  • Port Roberts Port of Entry Open 24 hours
  • Seattle Seaport Open 6 am — 2 am.

You may be denied re-entry into the United States, if you fail to register your departure when leaving the U.S.!!!

For a complete list of designated ports of departure and more detailed exit information go to Document BLISTOFP.pdf (www.immigration.gov) Opens in a new window.

If you think that you were required to register, but you missed the deadline, consult an immigration lawyer immediately!
